Jan 20, 2025

Washington [US], January 20: Today (January 20), Oxfam released a report showing that the world's billionaires' assets increased by 2,000 billion USD in 2024, 3 times faster than in 2023.
Titled "Takers, not creators," Oxfam's latest report shows that the world's billionaires ' wealth increases by $5.7 billion every day, according to The Guardian .
At this rate, the world is on track to see five trillion-dollar billionaires within a decade, compared to last year's prediction of one trillion-dollar billionaire over the same period.
Globally, the number of billionaires will increase by 204 to 2,769 by 2024. Their total wealth will increase from $13 trillion to $15 trillion in 12 months.
The world's 10 richest people's fortunes increased by an average of nearly $100 million a day, and even if they lost 99% of their wealth overnight, they would still be billionaires.
At the same time, the number of people living below the poverty line, defined by the World Bank as $6.85 a day (VND 174,000), has remained virtually unchanged since 1990, and is close to 3.6 billion people (equivalent to 44% of the current global population).
Also according to Oxfam, 1 in 10 women live in extreme poverty (under $2.15/day), meaning the number of women in poverty is 24.3 million higher than men in the same situation.
The report was released as many world leaders, business leaders and the super-rich traveled to Davos (Switzerland) for the annual World Economic Forum from January 20.
Oxfam's announcement of billionaire wealth coincides with Donald Trump's inauguration as US President. Trump's cabinet is expected to include billionaires, including Elon Musk , CEO of Tesla and SpaceX.
