What message does Iran's president-elect have for Hezbollah and Israel?

Jul 09, 2024

Tehran [Iran], July 9: Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on July 8 reaffirmed Tehran's support for Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.
The statement, made to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Iran 's official IRNA news agency , was one of Pezeshkian's first foreign policy comments since he won the July 5 presidential election, according to AFP.
Since the conflict erupted in Gaza, Hezbollah and Israel have traded gunfire almost daily on the Israel-Lebanon border, raising global concerns about the risk of all-out war as fighting escalates.
Also on July 8, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani declared that Tehran "will be ready to support Lebanon" and that Israel "must be aware of the consequences of any risky actions in the region, especially against Lebanon."
There is currently no information about Israel's reaction to Iran's statement.
Earlier, the Iranian delegation to the United Nations warned on social network X on June 28 that if Israel launched "a full-scale military invasion" in Lebanon, "a war of destruction would ensue."
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on June 29 that Iran's message of a "war of destruction" made the country worthy of destruction, according to Reuters.
