US, South Korea, Japan conduct drills against North Korea

Seoul [South Korea], August 30: South Korea's military announced that it had conducted missile defense drills at sea with the US and Japan in the Korean peninsula on August 29.
According to Reuters, the exercise took place in international waters off Jeju Island in southern South Korea. The goal of this operation is to improve the ability to detect and track targets and share information in the event of a North Korean provocation.
The drills come shortly after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for radical modernization of the navy's weapons and equipment, which will become part of a strategically responsible nuclear deterrent. . The statement was made by Mr. Kim during a visit to North Korea's Naval Command.
Also here, the leader criticized the three countries for the joint exercise. According to him, the US and its allies have turned the waters off the Korean peninsula into "the concentration of the world's largest weapons of war, the most unstable sea in the world with the risk of nuclear war".
