US security adviser sees chance for Biden to meet Xi this year

Aug 30, 2024

Washington [US], August 30: US President Joe Biden could meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping again - possibly at an international meeting in November, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Thursday.
Sullivan, speaking after three days of meetings with high-level Chinese officials in Beijing, said it is likely that both Biden and Xi will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru and the Group of 20 (G20) meeting in Brazil - both in November.
"The likelihood is they are gonna be there and if they are, it would only be natural for them to have the chance to sit down with one another," Sullivan said.
While he said it would only be natural for them to sit down together, should they both be there, he stressed that he was not announcing or confirming a meeting.
