Uruguay recall Suarez, Cavani for World Cup qualifiers

Sep 18, 2021

Montevideo (Uruguay) Sep 18: Strikers Luis Suarez and EdinsonCavani have returned to Uruguay's national squad for 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Colombia, Argentina and Brazil, the country's football association said on Friday.
Atletico Madrid's Suarez has recovered from a knee injury that sidelined him from the Celeste's triple header of World Cup qualifiers earlier this month.
Cavani's availability is less certain and could hinge on whether quarantine requirements for players returning to Britain from South America -- which prevented him from playing in the Celeste's most recent qualifiers -- are still in place.
Head coach Oscar Tabarez also recalled Sporting Lisbon defender Sebastian Coates and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez on a provisional 30-man list.
Uruguay will host Colombia on October 7 before away fixtures against Argentina and Brazil on October 10 and 15.
The two-time World Cup winners are currently third in the 10-team South American zone qualifying group with 15 points from nine matches.
