Washington [US], July 15: The plane carrying Mr. Trump landed in Milwaukee on July 14 (July 15, Vietnam time). Donald Trump's son, Mr. Eric Trump, posted on social network X that the plane carrying him and his father had just landed in the city in Wisconsin , AFP reported.
Previously, Mr. Trump affirmed that he would attend the Republican event as planned. "I was planning to move my trip to Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention by 2 days, but I have just decided that I will not allow a "shooter" or assassin to force me to change my schedule or anything else," Mr. Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on July 14.
The Republican National Convention (RNC) will take place over four days, starting on July 15. Here, the Republican Party is expected to officially nominate Mr. Trump as the party's candidate to run for the White House in November. On the opening day of the convention, Mr. Trump is likely to announce his running mate, who will be the vice presidential candidate , according to AFP.
Mr Trump's campaign said the former president would formally accept the nomination on July 18, and would deliver a speech "watched by millions".
The US Secret Service said on July 14 that it would not increase security compared to the original plan at the Republican Party event, following the attempted assassination of Mr. Trump in Pennsylvania .
"The plan that we have in place will continue as it is and we are confident in those plans," Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, coordinator of the US Secret Service, said in Milwaukee on July 14.
Guns will be allowed within a certain radius of the Fiserv Forum building, where the Republican convention is taking place. Local officials said that Wisconsin law allows open carry of guns and that this cannot be changed in Milwaukee, according to CNN.
Just a day ago, Mr. Trump was shot while campaigning in Pennsylvania, causing shock both domestically and internationally.
