Washington [USA], June 3: ABC News reported that the shooting occurred in the early morning of June 2 (local time) when a group of people were partying on the street. At least 25 people were shot, including one person who died and two victims in critical condition.
Police said the victims were between 19 and 33 years old. Police recovered two handguns at the scene and evidence suggested someone drove by and opened fire, leading to return fire.
As of the evening of June 2, no one has been arrested and no one is under investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to immediately contact authorities.
The shooting happened just after midnight. Witnesses then called the emergency line multiple times to report multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Witnesses told local media that hundreds of people ran for cover when the shots rang out. A female witness named Brittney said that gunfire broke out after many fights occurred at the party.
Police immediately arrived at the scene and local hospitals reported receiving many patients with gunshot wounds. The victim who died was a 27-year-old man.
Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding, who took office last week, condemned the "senseless violence" and expressed condolences to the victims and relatives. The two officials vowed to "find answers" to this shooting. According to ABC News, the motive of the case has not been clarified.
"We will bring those responsible to justice and we need the community's help," the mayor and police chief said in a joint statement.
