Moscow [Russia], August 27: Meanwhile, the commander of Russia's Akhmat Special Forces, Apty Alaudinov, said: "The enemy is really trying to advance, but in vain." In a report on August 26, Mr. Alaudinov presented that in the past 24 hours, Russia had destroyed eight armored tanks and killed many Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk province. Adding more impetus, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on August 26 that soldiers in Kursk had received additional weapons and missiles to deal with Ukrainian forces. Not only that, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW-USA) also announced that it had recorded the combat presence of elite Russian special units in the area. ISW assessed that the Russian army will likely continue to transfer forces from lower priority directions to the important battlefield to protect Kursk.
In addition to Kursk, Russian Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin said on August 26 that Ukrainian suicide drones attacked residential areas in the cities of Saratov and Engels, injuring at least four people, damaging many houses and disrupting flights. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its air defense system destroyed nine UAVs in the Saratov region, located about 900 km from the border with Ukraine . Ukraine has not commented on the incident.
On the other hand, RIA news agency reported that on August 26, the Russian army launched many large-scale attacks targeting Ukraine's defense and energy infrastructure, leading to a series of large explosions recorded in the capital Kyiv and many cities across Ukraine. Accordingly, the Ukrainian army accused Russia of conducting two missile and UAV attacks on Kyiv on the morning of August 26. Initial information showed that there were no damages or casualties. The head of the Kyiv military government, Serhiy Popko, said that up to 10 UAVs were destroyed when they approached Kyiv. On the same day, The Kyiv Independent quoted Ukrainian officials as saying that explosions were also heard in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Lutsk and Odessa. Russia has not commented on the above information. Following the series of explosions, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko warned that the situation in Ukraine's energy system was very tense. Earlier, Ukrainian authorities issued warnings across the country after detecting at least 6 Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bombers and 11 Tu-95 bombers taking off simultaneously.
On the eastern front of Ukraine, Russia announced on August 26 that it had approached one of the important bases of the Ukrainian army near Pokrovsk (Donetsk). According to TASS, Russian forces approached the town of Selidovo from the northeast and Ukraine is said to be trying to move reserve troops to this area.
