Copenhagen [Denmark], January 30: Police urged residents to stay indoors on Monday as a heavy storm hit northern Norway, causing disruptions and debris.
The storm was causing materials including roofing to fly through the air in some areas, the regional police warned on the platform X. Several schools in the region remained closed on Monday and numerous flights to and from northern Norway have been cancelled, the Norwegian news agency NTB reported.
There was a high risk of avalanches in large parts of the region, the meteorological institute said.
Meteorologists said the highest wind speeds were expected for Monday afternoon. Hurricane-force winds could occur along the coast, meteorologist Jon Austerheim told NTB.
