A group of hard-line Republican lawmakers in the US is opposing further aid to Ukraine, arguing that American taxpayers' money should be spent on domestic issues. However, the majority of Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress support additional support for Ukraine.
Ukraine's second goal, according to Mr. Zelensky, is a 50 billion euro aid package from the European Union (EU), which has been announced but has not been approved due to Hungary's opposition.
"And third is to open dialogue about our future membership (in the EU)," President Zelensky said.
The European Commission this month recommended that the EU formally dialogue to admit Ukraine and the country expects the bloc's members to agree to launch the process at the EU summit on December 14-15.
