PP Sports suspends Serie A and FA Cup broadcasts

Feb 20, 2021

Hong Kong (China) Feb 20: PP Sports has halted broadcasts of Italy's Serie A and England's FA Cup, the Chinese media platform announced on Saturday morning.
PP Sports did not broadcast the 21st round of Serie A matches in early February due to what it termed "signal issues", with some Italian outlets reporting that PP Sports had not paid the required licensing fee on time.
The company soon resumed its Serie A coverage, after it was reported that both sides had agreed on interim terms.
A source close to PP Sports told Xinhua that the company had been negotiating with Serie A on price and rights terms.
According to a PP Sports statement on Saturday, the company has not reached an agreement on terms with distributor International Management Group (IMG), resulting in the current halt to live streaming of Serie A and the FA Cup.
PP Sports, which is owned by Chinese retail giant Suning, saw a deal to broadcast Premier League matches collapse last September.
