Police arrested the man who attacked the Danish Prime Minister in public

Copenhagen [Denmark], June 8: It is still unclear whether the Danish Prime Minister was injured or not. The Prime Minister's Office announced that Ms. Frederiksen was shocked when she was suddenly beaten by someone in public, but did not provide further information.
"Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was attacked by a man on the afternoon of June 7 in Kultorvet Square in Copenhagen. This person was later arrested," according to information from the prime minister's office.
Copenhagen police confirmed the incident occurred at Kultorvet pedestrian square in the city center. "We have arrested the person and are investigating the case," the police announced on X (former name Twitter).
The Danish Prime Minister's beating in public happened while about 450 million citizens of 27 European Union (EU) member countries went to the polls to choose more than 700 parliamentarians for the European Parliament .
The incident also comes weeks after Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot in an assassination attempt, and amid low levels of political violence and rising intimidation of candidates, the market heads and officials in France, Germany and other countries.
Mr. Pelle Dragsted, spokesman for the opposition Red-Green Alliance, called the attack on Ms. Frederiksen "appalling and completely unacceptable."
Danish Trade Minister Morten Bødskov spoke out against the attack, while Morten Messerschmidt, Chairman of the Danish People's Party, emphasized that "there is never a place for violence".
European leaders also condemned the beating of the Danish Prime Minister.
