Nordic ministers discuss migration challenges, security concerns

Oslo [Norway], August 17: Nordic ministers responsible for migration and immigration convened in Rosendal, western Norway on Thursday and Friday to address issues related to asylum and migration in the region.
The meeting centered on safeguarding the integrity of the asylum system and addressing emerging security concerns. Key discussions focused on leveraging visa policy tools as both incentives and deterrents in managing repatriation and readmission processes.
The ministers stressed the importance of preventing the misuse of the European Union's common visa system.
"A joint effort is imperative to prevent this in the future," the ministers stated collectively, underscoring their shared commitment to maintaining the security and integrity of the region's external borders.
The discussions also covered the implementation of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact, with a focus on exploring innovative solutions for processing asylum requests and enhancing cooperation with third countries.
Norwegian Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilie Enger Mehl hosted the meeting, which was attended by her counterparts from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland.
