Mr. Trump's criminal case in Georgia was postponed indefinitely

Jun 06, 2024

Georgia (Atlanta) [USA], June 6: In its ruling on June 5, the Georgia Court of Appeals said that Mr. Trump's trial on charges of conspiracy to overthrow the election will not take place before the US presidential election in November, according to CNN.
The court said the case would be delayed until the justices decide whether prosecutor Fani Willis , the district attorney in Fulton County, should be removed from the case because of ineligibility. A ruling on this is expected to be issued in March 2025 or earlier.
Mr. Trump and his co-defendants in the case sought to disqualify Ms. Willis because of her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, who was hired by Ms. Willis to help handle the case. The defendants allege that Ms. Willis benefited financially from her relationship with Mr. Wade, who allegedly paid for multiple trips with Ms. Willis.
Judge Scott McAfee said in March that there was insufficient evidence for this allegation. However, the scandals about Ms. Willis's private life have shifted the focus of attention away from the accusations against Mr. Trump and others.
The judge allowed Ms. Willis to remain on the case on the condition that Mr. Wade resigns.
The appeals court's postponement of the case is a big victory for Mr. Trump, who was convicted in the hush money case in New York and will receive his sentence on July 11. The secret documents case in the state of Florida also has no trial date, similar to the election-related case in Washington DC
