New York [US], June 29: A massive outage disrupted international roaming services of AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, the three major cellular carriers in the United States, on Thursday, leaving some of their customers stranded overseas until Friday morning.
American users traveling abroad have complained on social media that they were unable to make phone calls, send messages and use data for almost a full day due to connection problems.
T-Mobile confirmed in a statement that the company was "one of several providers impacted by a third-party vendor's issue that is intermittently affecting some international roaming service."
"We're working with them to resolve it," the company said.
A spokesperson of AT&T told CBS that some customers traveling internationally also experienced service disruptions due to an issue outside its network.
Meanwhile, about 30 percent of Verizon's customers abroad reportedly weren't able to make calls.
"We're working with them to resolve the issue," the company said on Thursday on social media platform X, recommending customers use WiFi for voice and data services.
According to a CNN report, the outage stemmed from connectivity issues at Syniverse, the third-party provider which handles international roaming services for the three mobile carriers.
