Israel attacks Lebanon amid ceasefire

Feb 08, 2025

Jerusalem [Israel], February 8: The Times of Israel reported yesterday (February 7) that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on February 6 that it had conducted a precision strike in Lebanese territory on two military sites containing weapons of the Hezbollah force and argued that such weapons storage violated the ceasefire agreement.
The IDF described the new airstrike as "targeted" and said it "will prevent any attempt by the terrorist organization Hezbollah to rearm, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement." As of yesterday afternoon, there was no information about Hezbollah's response.
A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been in effect since November 27, 2024, after more than a year of conflict between the two sides. Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to carry out attacks in Lebanon and both sides have repeatedly accused the other of violating the truce, according to AFP.
In another development, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said on February 6 that US President Donald Trump's idea of taking over the Gaza Strip and relocating its people was a "declaration of intent to occupy" the Palestinian territory, according to AFP.
On the same day, Egypt warned that Israel's support for Mr. Trump's idea of relocating Gaza residents "undermines and destroys ceasefire negotiations and provokes a return to hostilities."
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on February 6 that Gaza residents would have to live elsewhere while Gaza is rebuilt, according to Reuters. Rubio did not say whether they could return under Trump's plan to develop Gaza. Gaza is currently home to more than 2 million Palestinians.
