Harris to give first TV interview since running for president

Aug 28, 2024

Washington [US], August 28: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will participate in an interview with CNN, scheduled to air on the morning of August 30 (Vietnam time).
The interview took place as the two Democratic candidates campaigned in Georgia. This was also the first time US Vice President Kamala Harris participated in an in-depth interview since she replaced President Joe Biden in the election, CNN reported on August 27.
Harris has received a wave of support after more than a month of running for president. However, the fact that she has not given any formal interviews has been used by Republicans to criticize her. She pledged to do so this month in early August. Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has criticized Harris's refusal to be interviewed by the US media as "disgraceful".
Harris has also fielded questions from reporters at rallies in recent weeks. She also sat down for three interviews with content creators and influencers at the Democratic National Convention last week, an example of the Harris campaign's belief that voters, especially younger voters, are getting their news from new sources on social media rather than traditional ones.
The upcoming interview will be an opportunity for Ms. Harris to clarify her stance on domestic and foreign policies . According to CNN, her messages so far have been emotional and lack specific policies.
Past interviews have been difficult for Harris. In a 2021 interview with NBC News, the vice president became upset when asked why she had not visited the US-Mexico border , when she was tasked with investigating the root causes of immigration from Central and South America.
In another development, former US President Donald Trump on August 27 confirmed that he would participate in the debate with Ms. Harris on ABC News on September 10 as previously agreed, after a post hinted at the possibility that he would refuse to attend.
