French politics continues to be deadlocked

Aug 28, 2024

Paris [France], August 28: French President Emmanuel Macron's refusal to nominate members of the New Popular Front (NFP) coalition to form a new government has met with opposition from this left-wing faction and has further aggravated the current political deadlock in France.
If he cannot form a new government after the recent early general election, Mr. Macron cannot peacefully rule and certainly cannot rule successfully for the remainder of his current French presidential term.
This person is currently in a very difficult situation, and if he does not accept painful concessions and basic compromises, he will not be able to escape the dilemma. In the recent parliamentary elections , the NFP alliance won the most seats, Mr. Macron's party was only in second place, ahead of the far-right, populist party. The left and right in France have fundamentally different views on many issues, but they are on the same boat in their determination to overthrow Mr. Macron and not let his faction continue to form a new government.
With the current balance of power in the French parliament, Mr Macron's faction has no chance of forming a government. The same goes for the right, the far right, the populists, the nationalists, but this faction is ready to support the left-wing NFP coalition to form a government. That is what worries Mr Macron .
In both theory and law in Western countries, to truly practice democracy, the largest political faction in parliament must form a government if other factions cannot form a coalition to obtain the necessary majority in parliament. Only when this largest political faction fails to form a government can the old government continue to rule temporarily. Mr. Macron is disregarding this principle to save power for his political faction. Therefore, France continues to be politically deadlocked and is moving closer to a government crisis.
