China's Yan loses to Selby at snooker's Welsh Open

Feb 19, 2021

London (UK) Feb 19: Newly-crowned Masters champion Yan Bingtao of China lost to three-time world champion Mark Selby 4-2 in snooker's Welsh Open in Newport, Wales on Thursday.
In the fourth round clash, Yan didn't show the brilliance which brought him a Masters title in his debut at the prestigious invitation event one month ago. The 21-year-old only made one break above 50 points and surrendered the quarterfinal place to Selby.
Yan's compatriot Zhou Yuelong also suffered defeat to a famed veteran, as the 23-year-old was beaten by six-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 4-1.
Pang Junxu, who saw off China's top player Ding Junhui in the second round, was defeated by Stephen Maguire 4-2, meaning no Chinese player reached the tournament's last eight.
Iran's Hossein Vafaei shocked world number one Judd Trump 4-2 in the third round but failed to progress further, being beaten by Mark Williams 4-2.
