China fights college entrance exam fraud with AI

According to Guangdong Daily , Guangdong province has deployed AI on 386 exam sites to detect cheating, plagiarism and other unusual behaviors through image and video data. If strange signs are detected, the system immediately signals the supervisor to take remedial measures. In previous years, Chinese officials applied technology in the Gaokao, considered one of the most fierce university exams in the world. China in 2015 deployed drones to detect fraud. Since 2016, cheating during the Gaokao period can be considered a criminal offense.
The research team in Sichuan province said AI can monitor large amounts of surveillance video, helping to shorten review time. To develop anti-fraud AI, it is necessary to collect and annotate large amounts of data about what behavior is considered anomalous.
Computer vision technology is used to capture and process images in the exam environment, extracting image features. Machine learning algorithms will then train based on these image characteristics to establish a model that identifies abnormal behavior in exams, which can be applied to real-time exam monitoring.
