Britain bans animal products imports from Germany over foot-and-mouth disease

Jan 15, 2025

London [England], January 15: Britain has banned pigs, sheep and cattle imports from Germany after a case of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed in the country, the government confirmed Tuesday.
Currently, there are no confirmed cases in Britain. In 2001 and 2007, major outbreaks of food-and-mouth in Britain led to millions of livestock animals being slaughtered across the country.
Foot-and-mouth is highly contagious in pigs, sheep and cattle, as well as other cloven-hoofed animals. It is considered that the disease poses little risk to humans or food safety.
