967 killed in traffic accidents in Vietnam in one-month period

Hanoi [Vietnam], February 2: A total of 967 people were killed in traffic accidents from Dec. 15, 2023 to Jan. 15, 2024 in Vietnam, the National Traffic Safety Committee said on Thursday.
During the period, 2,434 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, leading to 2,037 injuries.
On a yearly comparison, the number of accidents and injuries increased 25.08 percent and 15.23 percent respectively.
The number of deaths declined 20.87 percent year on year.
On average, 79 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam every day, killing 31 people and injuring 66 others.
Among the accidents recorded, a total of 2,410 were road traffic accidents, which killed 950 people and injured 2,036 others.
Most of the accidents were caused by drivers breaking traffic laws such as speeding or drink-driving.
